Real Madrid hoping for Ronaldo reprive

Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid will be without Cristiano Ronaldo against Villarreal after he lost an appeal against his three-game ban.
The forward was sent off last Sunday against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.
Boss Carlo Ancelotti remained hopeful of having Ronaldo available, and said his plans for the game included the Portugal captain, but the Spanish FA has rejected the appeal.
Gareth Bale will return after missing the 3-0 cup win over Atletico Madrid.
Manager Ancelotti said in his pre-match news conference: "The reason Bale didn't play against Atletico [on Wednesday] was because I wanted him to be fresh for tomorrow's game. That's the truth.
"When I say Bale is fit, he is fit. He will play tomorrow."
Real are three points off rivals Atletico, who top the table from Barcelona.
